We had a great time talking on the ride there and back on the way back we stoped at  all church that had been abandon.

Group 2:

Today we were at Ms. A’s house. We stained the deck and ramp outside, then on the inside we finished the flooring and quarter round around the bottom of the kitchen wall. We helped put her kitchen back together when we were all finished. We got to meet and hangout with the home owner. It was a very fun day and very hot and humid.

Group 3:

Today we painted the picnic tables and cleaned up the beach. Ms Katie made sure everyone drank lots and lots of water. Everyone helped each other so no one was doing something alone.

The group inside worked with Mandy and Pat and finished putting in floors and quarter-round in the living room. There was a group of girls that installed railings  in the shower. Everyone else worked outside with Karen and Tammy and finished installing a porch and put in stairs along with a railing. We had lots of people use new tools for the first time. We all have had a great time and it will be hard to leave White Lake.

Day 3 updates

Day 3 Updates

Group 1:

Today we helped Ms. A and some of the things that we worked on are the flooring in her kitchen and we put in a band new water heater. We also replaced plumbing in her bathroom.  We got to talk to her and learn about her and her life and how she tries to enjoy life. She really enjoyed our company and getting to know us and loved what we got done with her home.

Group 2:

Today we built a new wheelchair ramp for Ms. M how gave us peaches. Kennedy and Caroline made a small set of stairs. Stone and Grayson broke some concrete while Kennedy Caroline and Wesley put the boards on the ramp.

Group 3:

When we arrived at our site today, We split off into two separate teams. One group worked inside on the flooring and the trim of the house and another group worked outside to disassemble the old front steps and begin work on a new set. Will, Jonathan, and Deac worked inside with Brian today, and we learned that they were really skilled with flooring. Everyone had a great chance bond together and learn new strengths and talents. Michael and Jonathan worked outside and took down the front steps, building a new deck in its place. This was our longest and most work intensive day and we’re really proud of the work we put into today, and the initiative that everyone showed. Although we were tired in the van ride back to camp, we’re all excited for our final day of work, and finishing off these homes.

Group 4:

Today we helped out the homeowner by clearing out the trees, weeds, and bushes from around her house so that her house could get sprayed for termites. We had to get loppers and big scissors to remove the weeds from around the house and we mowed the tall grass behind her house. Isaiah and Jackson went on a separate site to install two doors and then they met up and helped us out midway through. We didn’t talk much to the homeowner but we still learned a lot about her and her life.

Group 5: Today we help a lady fix her back pouch cause it was held up by one 4x4 and it was rotting out so Jace, Samuel, and Cassidy cut the wood to help stabilize the porch. While this was happing Sam and Rachel help remove everything in the bathroom to put a new toilet and flooring in. When all of that was done; Hannah, Rachel, Abby were helping trim the bushes on the outside after we all came together to put all those branches and leaves in a trash bag to get rid of.

Day 2 updates!

Group 1

Today, Group 1 had a particularly easy day.  The group began by going and cleaning up a worksite from the previous day.  Shortly after, they headed to the next site to begin removing an old porch.  They finished quickly, then came back to camp and helped tidy up the walk ways by picking up pieces of concrete left from when they put new concrete in.

Group 2

We got there and it started drizzling right off the bat. And then Grayson and Stone started destroying the old stairs for extra wood because it was still good. Then Wesley, Brian, Rebecca, Caroline, Kennedy all started on the inside flooring and Grayson, Stone, Allie and Allison where finishing the outside steps and adding all the wood to it. And it rained all day pretty much.

Group 3:

Hello blog, today in group 3 we went to job sight 2 and we did a lot of trim work in and around rooms and we also did transition strips in between rooms. Outside of the house we did this type of rubber paint and some type of weather stripping that I don’t know the purpose of.

Group 4

Today Group 4 was at Ms. S's house. When we got there, we did our devotion with the homeowner and she seemed to really enjoy doing that with us! After devotion we got split into different teams to get all the work done quicker. A few of us went inside to the master bedroom and worked on installing new doors for the closet and bathroom, another two of us were in the kitchen pulling out cabinets that were very molded so that we could install a whole new set of cabinets and sink. Fortunately, the floor looked worse than it actually was, and we didn’t have to repair it! The last person left did pressure washing on the back of the house, then some of us switched before lunch and we did the rest of pressure washing until we ran out of gas.

Group 5

Today Group 5 went to Miss A's house. We stained some wood stairs and replaced flooring. It started raining after we finished the stairs so we all went inside to talk with Miss Annie. We finished the bathroom flooring and the stairs staining.

We also learned how to place vinal flooring and how to stain a deck. By the end of the day we had completely put in an entire new floor in the bathroom and reinstalled the washer, dryer and toilet. Towards the end of the day the kitchen counter had almost completely collapsed and we had to secure it so that the next group would be able to work on it tomorrow.

Today in group 5 we worked on Mr. J’s trailer. He had a old deck that was difficult for him to get in and out of his home with. We worked on taking that apart and building up a new one with new boards, railings, and and a ramp to make it easy on him when its hard for him to walk.

Stretch

Our 2021 Youth Mission Camp is almost here!  It is looking to be a great year!

This year's mission camp is a collaboration with St. Andrew's UMC of Charlotte, First UMC of Morganton, and New Salem UMC of Statesville!

Our theme is for this summer is Stretch.

This has certainly been a year of being stretched.

How do we stretch without breaking?

How does being stretched make us stronger?

How. does being stretched make us more flexible?

How does being stretched help us learn our strengths?

These are all things we will explore this week while on our mission trip both through worship, service, and small group discussions!

We currently have 55 folks attending the trip (30 youth and 25 adults)!  Prayer for safety, for openness, for our ability to meet the needs of the homeowners, and for us to gain a better perspective for our role as Christians in a broken world!
